Penny the porcupine was proud of her shiny quills. They stuck out in every direction like tiny swords. But there was one problem, no one wanted to play tag with her.
“Sorry, Penny,” said Squirrel. “Last time I tagged you, I got poked!”
“Yeah,” giggled Rabbit, rubbing his paw. “You’re a little too ouchy for games.”
Penny sighed. “What good are quills if they just make me lonely?”
The Forest Fair Dilemma
One morning, posters went up on every tree: FOREST FAIR TODAY! There would be games, music, and even a pie contest. But when Penny waddled to the meadow, she saw chaos.
The animals were arguing.
“Who will hold the banner?” cried Owl.
“We don’t have enough sticks for decorations!” moaned Fox.
“And the pie table keeps wobbling!” added Bear, balancing blueberry pies that nearly slid onto his nose.
Penny’s whiskers twitched. “Hmm… maybe my quills can help.”

Quills to the Rescue
Penny pulled out a single loose quill and stuck it in the ground. POK!
“Perfect for holding up your banner!” she told Owl.
She plucked a few more and handed them to Fox. “Here, use these as extra sticks for your streamers.”
Finally, Penny carefully arranged quills under Bear’s pie table like tiny supports. The table stood tall and sturdy. Bear clapped his paws. “No more pie disasters!”
Soon, the whole fair looked brighter, sturdier, and downright quill-tastic.
Penny Becomes a Star
When the music started, animals danced around Penny’s quill-decorated fair. Even Rabbit and Squirrel hopped over.
“Penny, your quills aren’t scary at all, they’re amazing!”
“Yeah, you saved the fair!”
Penny’s cheeks blushed beneath her bristles. “Guess being prickly isn’t so bad after all.”
That evening, the fair ended with cheers, laughter, and a blueberry pie just for Penny. She took a happy bite and decided quills were not just for protection—they were for creativity, too.
From then on, whenever there was a problem, the animals said:
“Call Penny! She’s got the point!”
