Danny the deer loved exploring. One morning, while chasing a butterfly, he trotted farther than usual. He squeezed through a gap in the fence and, oops! ended up on a noisy street full of cars.
“Uh-oh,” Danny gulped. “These aren’t forest sounds at all!”
Horns honked, people pointed, and Danny wobbled nervously on the slippery sidewalk. The forest suddenly felt very, very far away.
Pigeon Patrol
Just as Danny was about to panic, a flock of pigeons landed nearby.
“Lost, are we?” cooed the leader pigeon, puffing his chest.
“Stick with us—we know every crumb in this city!” another added.
Danny followed as the pigeons led him past hot-dog stands, park benches, and snack shops. Danny couldn’t resist nibbling a dropped pretzel. “City food is tasty, but salty!” he giggled.
The Dog Detectives
At the next corner, two friendly dogs barked happily.
“Need directions, big guy?” one wagged.
“The forest is that way, but watch out for the traffic lights!” the other warned.
Danny tilted his head. “What’s a traffic light?”
The dogs taught him the rules: red means stop, green means go. But Danny got distracted when the light turned yellow. “Is that banana-colored? I love bananas!” he said, causing a giggle from the passing children.
The Bus Ride Home
Finally, Danny reached the edge of the city, but there was still a long way back to the forest. That’s when a kind bus driver spotted him.
“Well, I’ve never given a deer a lift before,” the driver chuckled. “Hop on!”
Danny carefully climbed aboard, while pigeons perched on the windows and the dogs wagged from the sidewalk. The bus rumbled all the way back to the forest edge.
Danny leapt off and neighed happily. “Next time I’ll stick to chasing butterflies in the meadow!”
The city had been funny and full of snacks—but home was where the trees, grass, and peace waited.
